IOP: Understanding the jargon

Time to learn the jaron, hope you find my notes useful. Aperture Controllers the diameter of the diaphragm, just like the pupil in your eye. The aperture setting is adjusted with a series of stops know as f stops. Each adjustment to the aperture is called an f stop, each one either halves or doubles the amount of light that enters the camera. f/2 is a large aperture. f/8 is a medium aperture. f/22 is a small...

IOP: Accessories

Continuing with IOP, today I finish off unit one (essential accessories). Filters Although most effects can still be replicated digitally not all of them can. The two most commonly used filters are the neutral density and the polariser filters. Netrual density filters tone down the bright areas of a scene helping you capture, allowing you to capture even more exposure without having burned out areas. They work by cutting off the amount of light the image sensor gets. ND filters come...

IOP: Lenses

So I have decided to attempt to get a diploma in digital photography and I thought I would share my course notes. This post is all about lenses. Lenses Prime Fixed focal length. Cheaper. Lighter. Better image quality. Less versatile (can't zoom). Zoom Vary focal length. More versatile (can zoom). Don't need to move to get your shot. Capture subjects without drawing attention to yourself. Wide angle Typically between 18mm and 28mm. Emphasise the difference...

Upgraded to Nginx

After looking into alternative solutions for work, I have switched to Nginx. I am now using Nginx and Apache2 on my server and love it! Nginx is setup as a reverse proxy, this means that Nginx does not actually process the content it just hands it off to Apache. Then why use Nginx at all? Well because it rocks! It can server 10,000 users with just 10Mb of ram, something Apache just can't do due...

First time-lapse

After getting my photography skills update to scratch I thought I would make a time-lapse of the sunset behind my house. The setup is 1 image a minute for 2 hours, I setup this up in the back bedroom of my house on the new tripod I got. I then used this lovely software to create the video and upload to YouTube:

My tardy man

Thinking of creating a game in cocos2d, a simple platform game. So created this lovely chap. So here he is, the tardy man! </a> I know...I know! Sexy isn't he...you don't have to tell me twice. Now for the game concept, not quite sure what the game will be about but it needs to be damn retarded, that I can ensure you!

Third party plugins

Third party plugins, a quick rant about what I love/hate about them.  When I started out creating website I had enough ideas to sink a boat but not the skill-set to implement them fully, so like any good coding student I reached out to the myriad of third party plugins. Since then I have gone from relying on them to actually wanting to avoid them at all costs. As a colleague of mine will point out, Wordpress core...

Embedded C – what I have learnt so far

I have recently been working with my good friend Darren Leyland to learn Embedded C on the AVR platform and I thought I would share what I think I have learnt so far. Before we begin, an 'AVR' is a type of microcontroller that can be programmed to do a myriad of tasks. Microcontroller exist inside allow of devices including your phone, they are a simple cpu of some sorts. Now into the code...you what ports ont...

Nice day today

Nice day today so I thought I would give the camera a good tryout. Not really had a chance to take images in the day light, apart from at work, which actually had really good light. With today being such a nice day and am not doing anything so I though I would wash the bike, take some pictures. The images of the bike have been posted on a old article. Here are some nice...

So I bought a DSLR

I recently purchased a Nikon D5100, time to become a douche. Took this one at work, actually love this camera. More sexy images to come!
